Design
As far as the design goes, this solar birdbath also excels in that area. I ranked it with a 10 out of 10 and currently placed it in 1st place. It’s tied with one other birdbath for the highest honor.
Why do I love the design?
First off, I love the overall simplicity.
The manufacturer, Melville Direct, didn’t go overboard with too many outrageous design features.
Yet at the same time, it’s attractive enough that it looks very aesthetically pleasing. I’ll go into more detail below.
Overall, the design is sturdy and it consists of a metal pedestal stand and a glass bowl in the shape of a peacock feather.
Some people worry about the glass birdbath because it looks fragile on the surface. But nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to this particular one.
How so?
The metal pedestal stand provides a sturdy base. You can place it in grass, on concrete, or in the dirt in the middle of your garden. As long as you keep it centered, the nearly 10 pound stand/glass bowl will hold up nicely without being too wobbly or appear like it’s ready to tip over.
From my personal point of view, this is a great way to ultimately ensure that the glass bowl doesn’t constantly tip over and potentially break.
Ease of Cleaning
Once again, I ranked this birdbath highly for the category ease of cleaning. I gave it 9 out of 10, which actually puts it in a three-way tie for 1st place.
Why is it so easy to clean?
Good question. First off, it’s lightweight and easy to maneuver. This means you can quickly drain the water from the glass bowl and wipe it down without any real difficulty.
Some people worry that the birdbath is going to be too heavy for one person to move. This is definitely not the case with this glass birdbath. Since it’s less than 10 pounds, anyone with even minor strength can easily drain it out for proper cleaning.
You can wipe it down with a wash rag or scrub it with soap and water as part of your cleaning regimen too. Overall, it doesn’t require too much effort or energy to wipe it down to make it look aesthetically pleasing.
On the other hand:
You should remove the solar panel from the center of the birdbath from time to time and wipe it down. You can even wash it with a cleaning solution or regular soap to make sure it’s thoroughly cleaned.
Otherwise, gunk will build up on the solar panel and it will not charge the battery as effectively. So, definitely make sure the solar panel remains clean and working properly.
Ease of Assembly
Although assembling this birdbath isn’t very difficult, I ranked it 8 out of 10, which pretty much puts it in a tie for 6th place.
But don’t worry, because it isn’t difficult to assemble at all. In fact, out of all of the 8 birdbaths that I reviewed, they are all relatively easy to assemble. You do not have to be a rocket scientist or an expert mechanic to put them together.
So why did I shave off a couple of points?
In one instance, I took off points because of the rechargeable batteries. Every so often, your rechargeable batteries could potentially go bad and need to be replaced.
This is an extra step that isn’t necessarily assembly, but something that needs to take place nonetheless if the batteries no longer hold a charge.
In another instance, I knocked off a point because of the need to remove the solar panel from the center of the glass bowl from time to time for cleaning.
Again, this will be fully assembled when you receive it after purchasing it. But you’ll need to disassemble the centerpiece, remove the solar panel, thoroughly clean it, and then put it back when you’re finished.
This cleaning process guarantees that the solar panel works properly and fully charges the batteries so you can enjoy your night time glowing lights!
Does this make sense? It’s easy to assemble but you’ll have to make slight assembly alterations from time to time as part of the upkeep process.
Aesthetics
Aesthetics are a whole other ball of wax, and I’m happy to tell you that this solar birdbath is very aesthetically appealing.
In fact, it’s so appealing that I ranked it 10 out of 10. And it’s currently tied for 1st place with two other birdbaths out of the 8 that I reviewed.
Why is it so attractive?
For starters, the bright colors and the peacock feather design are really beautiful. They look amazing under the glow of the sun in the daytime. And the colors really stand out and sparkle, which makes it such a beautiful piece for your outdoor garden.
Even better…
The birdbath looks even more amazing at night. Once the 6 LED glowing lights begin to shine in concurrence with the moonlight, the birdbath looks absolutely stunning.
I promise that you will absolutely love the way it looks. Many previous owners have touted how gorgeous this birdbath truly is.
Material
For materials, I gave this birdbath the rank of 8 out of 10. This puts it in a four-way tie for 3rd place.
Why only 8 out of 10?
Although the material is definitely sturdy and strong, it is easily breakable nonetheless if you aren’t being careful.
The birdbath bowl is made of glass. Although the glass is thick enough, if you accidentally drop it or knock it over it will shatter into many pieces.
And the stand could potentially be a problem too.
Again, the stand is very sturdy. I wouldn’t recommend this birdbath if it wasn’t.
But…
You could accidentally set it up in a way that it’s off-balance. And if you aren’t paying attention, an off-balance birdbath can easily tip over from a strong gust of wind or someone accidentally bumping into it.
So, because the bowl is made of glass and the stand could potentially be placed wrong so that it’s wobbly, I decided to knock off 2 points to the ranking which lowers the overall score.

Does The Solar Glass Garden Bird Bath Freeze During The Winter?
Here’s the deal:
Even though this birdbath is powered by the sun, it isn’t an actual heated birdbath.
So, the water is going to freeze during the winter. This could potentially create a major problem that you’d rather avoid.
If the water freezes in the glass bowl, it could theoretically cause it to shatter or crack. If this happens, you’ll have to find a replacement bowl or buy a new birdbath entirely.
You might be able to find a birdbath heater to install in place of the solar panel during the winter. You’d have to find out if this is possible by contacting the manufacturer.
Otherwise, I wholeheartedly recommend bringing in the birdbath during the cold months. It’s the only way to guarantee that it doesn’t freeze and crack.
How Can I Fix The Solar Powered Lights When They Stop Working?
Occasionally, the solar-powered lights might not work properly at night with your solar birdbath.
Don’t fear! There may be a very valid reason why and a simple fix.
First, you should check the rechargeable batteries. Take them out of the birdbath and place them in another device that uses AA batteries.
Do they work? Can you get them to hold a charge?
If not, you’ll need to replace your rechargeable batteries with a new pair.
How about this?
Is the solar birdbath in direct view of the sun?
If not, you may need to reposition the birdbath to make sure it is absorbing the maximum amounts of sunlight reaching your backyard.
If the view is obstructed or in the shade, you’ll need to better situate it to make sure ample sun reaches the solar panel to fully charge the battery.
Does This Solar Bird Bath Turn On And Off?
Yes! There is an on-off switch centrally located on the birdbath. Just press the switch to turn it on or off based on your personal wants and needs.
The birdbath lights will turn on automatically at dusk as soon as the sun goes down. But if you prefer them not to go on, just keep the button in the off position and it will not light up at night.
